Area of care 03
यकृत, पित्ताशय और अग्न्याशय का कैंसर
01Overview
- Liver
- Gallbladder
- Pancreas
- Biliary tract (bile ducts)
These organs sit close together in the upper belly and help with digestion. Doctors call this group HPB. The bile ducts are small tubes. They carry bile, a digestive fluid, from the liver to the gut.
Gallbladder cancer is more common in some parts of India than in many other regions. Surgery is often part of treatment when the growth can be removed safely. Chemotherapy (cancer medicines) or radiotherapy (high-energy rays) may be added where needed.

02Warning signs
Liver, gallbladder & pancreas cancer:
when to see a doctor.
These can also have other causes, but they are worth showing to a doctor.
Heavy bleeding, trouble breathing, chest pain or fainting: go to the nearest emergency department now.

- Pain in the upper right or upper middle belly that keeps returning or does not go away
- Itching all over with no skin cause
- Weight loss or loss of appetite with no clear reason
- Swelling or a lump in the upper belly
- Repeated pain in the upper belly, especially if gallstones are known
03Where surgery fits
Liver, gallbladder & pancreas cancer in Bikaner:
surgery in plain words.
- 01
Scans decide what is possible
CT, MRI and sometimes other tests show if a growth can be removed safely. They also show how much of the organ must be taken out.
- 02
Liver surgery
Where suitable, the part of the liver that holds the growth is removed. The liver can regrow, so a healthy part must remain.
- 03
Gallbladder surgery
This may mean removing the gallbladder with nearby liver tissue and lymph nodes (small glands that filter body fluid). This depends on the findings.
- 04
Pancreas and bile duct surgery
Operations on the pancreas or bile ducts are complex. They remove the affected part. Then the gut is joined back together.
- 05
Relieving jaundice
Sometimes the bile ducts are blocked. A procedure to drain the bile may then be needed before major surgery, or instead of it.
04How the plan is made
Decided together,
step by step.
- 01
Your doctor takes a full history, examines you and reviews your scans and blood tests.
- 02
Your doctor studies your reports and scans and advises any missing tests.
- 03
The case is discussed with other specialists where needed. These may be doctors for scans, tissue tests, cancer medicines and radiotherapy. This is called a multidisciplinary discussion.
- 04
The plan is explained to you and your family in plain words, with all the options. You decide together with the doctor.
05What to bring
Your papers
save time.
- Ultrasound reports, especially any gallbladder or liver ultrasound
- Full checklist for your first visit
06Questions
Asked about
liver, gallbladder & pancreas cancer.
Should gallstones be taken seriously?
Many people have gallstones without any cancer. Ask your doctor about stones that cause pain. Any thickening or growth seen on a scan should also be checked well.
What does jaundice mean?
Jaundice means a yellow colour (bilirubin) is building up in the blood. It has many causes, such as hepatitis and gallstones. So it needs a prompt check by a doctor.
Is major surgery always possible?
Not in every case. It depends on your scans and your general health. Whether the growth can be removed safely is discussed openly with you.
